From One Mum to another.
First things first: take a deep breath.
If you’re feeling overwhelmed right now, please know - you’re not alone.
Those first few days (and weeks!) of motherhood can feel like a whirlwind. Everything’s new, everything’s intense, and even with all the love, it can be a lot.
But slowly, gently, things begin to settle.
You’ll find your rhythm. You’ll learn your baby. And you’ll feel more like you again.
If you’re ever feeling lost, don’t be afraid to reach out - to your partner, your family, your friends. The people who love you want to help. Let them.
And remember: there’s no perfect way to do this.
Let people in
Sometimes friends and family want to help, but they’re just not sure how.
Point them to the kettle. Ask them to hold the baby while you shower or eat. Give them something to do - even something small and give yourself a moment to breathe.
You don’t have to do it all alone.
Take a moment (for you)
Looking after a newborn is a full-time, round-the-clock job.
So please don’t forget to look after yourself too.
Your baby needs you - fed, rested, and cared for.
Even ten quiet minutes with a cup of tea can make all the difference.
Embrace the chaos
Motherhood is messy and that’s okay.
The dishes might pile up. The laundry might stay unfolded. You might not have time to shower some days. And still… you’re doing beautifully.
This phase is temporary. And often, the loud, chaotic, imperfect moments become the most precious memories.
Your baby won’t remember if the house was spotless.
Celebrate the small wins
Not all victories look like sleep schedules and routines.
Some days, the win is a hot cup of coffee. A successful nappy change. A baby who finally naps after hours of trying.
Celebrate those little triumphs, they matter more than you think.
You’re doing an amazing job - even on the days you don’t feel like you are.
